A Look At The Old Republic

Last Monday I mentioned that BioWare had silently released two videos of players talking about the game. Now it seems that they have released another one, and actually had an announcement for it. Though it seems that this one is more a combination of the other two with some developer input as well, talking about how well the game is doing. Here is the official news:

No MMO launch is ever perfect, but we are pleased to report that the launch of Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ on December 20, 2011 was a tremendous success. More than two million copies of the game have been sold, and the servers are full of players logging in to experience their own personal Star Wars™ sagas and to play with friends through the hundreds of hours of massively-multiplayer content. It’s an exhilarating experience to watch the game grow as more people join, and even more exciting to hear what players are saying they enjoy most about the game.

Watch this new video to catch up on how the game’s doing and to hear from the players themselves on what makes the game such an incredible experience.

BioWare also posted their Dev Tracker Summary for the last week, but I think I pretty much already handled that Monday.

Galaxy of Guilds – Black Cloak

Today we get to visit with the guild that breathed life into the Black Vulkar’s Guild Co-op, which we covered here at TORWars last month. Black Cloak excels in several areas as a guild and is a very fine example to take lessons from. Most interestingly they have succeed in breaking away from the norm of guild raiding. [...]

Quick Start Guide: Maps & Navigation

Published by under eric musco,News,Uncategorized , Feb 22 2012

This morning along with a fresh new patch, BioWare also brought the latest installment of their video Quick Start guide series. This time, the legendary Eric Musco walks players though using the powerful and extensive map system in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

I have to say the map isn’t 100% user friendly to get into, but once you do, it’s a very powerful feature and a great addition (almost necessary) for a game like TOR.

You can check out other videos in the series, as well as hints at upcoming topics here. Enjoy!

Patch Notes: 1.1.4 – Global Cooldown UI, Bug Fixes & More

Published by under Patch Notes,Uncategorized , Feb 22 2012

BioWare pushed patch 1.1.4 to the live servers earlier today, and includes some bug fixes as well as some minor improvements. Most notably is the inclusion of yser-selectable preferences for the Global Cooldown interface behavior. The flexibility should be just what players were looking for! But I will also take this opportunity to suggest that if BioWare had allowed an open API for add-ons, the community would have solved this long ago and BioWare could have concentrated on more important things.

These notes, as well as all previous notes are available on BioWare’s official patch notes archive.

1.1.4 Patch Notes — 2/22/2012

General

    • The key formerly bound to /bug can now be mapped to any action and no longer opens the /bug window. The command is no longer able to be bound to a quickslot, but player can still type /bug in chat to open a new bug report.

Classes and Combat

General

      • Using abilities with indirect targeting (such as area of effect abilities) will no longer cause players to be flagged for PvP if a PvP-flagged player from the opposing faction is within the ability’s range, and the ability will have no effect on the PvP-flagged player.

Imperial Agent

Operative

        • Medical Therapy: Kolto Probe and Recuperative nanotech will now properly benefit from this skill.

Bounty Hunter

Powertech

      • Carbonize: PvP armor for Combat Tech will no longer prevent this skill from stunning enemies.

Flashpoints and Operations

Operations

Eternity Vault

        • Casting Mind Trap will no longer cause Soa to lose threat against his primary target.

Karagga’s Palace

      • G4-B3 Heavy Fabricator now has fewer hit points in Normal Mode.

Items

Vendors

    • “Show Usable” now properly filters to only show equipable items.

Missions and NPCs

Missions

Republic

      • Unlikely Allies: Resetting no longer requires players to abandon and re-acquire the mission in order to complete it.

PvP

Warzones

General

        • Fixed a queue interface exploit that allowed players to bring additional players into a warzone. While imbalances can still happen under specific circumstances, the issue can no longer be intentionally triggered by players in this way.

Alderaan Civil War

        • The Eastern Turret no longer fires twice under some circumstances when it is captured by the Imperials.

World PvP

Ilum

    • The /stuck comman will no longer teleport players to the location where they died.

UI

General

      • Added a /version command.
      • Added several new preferences for cooldown appearance:
        • Show Ready Flash: Toggles a bright flash when an ability finishes cooldown.
        • Show Global Cooldown Ready Flash: Toggles a bright flash when an ability finishes global cooldown.
        • Cooldown Style: Changes the art style for the cooldown graphic.
        • Global Cooldown Style: Changes the art style for the global cooldown graphic.
        • Show Cooldown Timer: Toggles cooldown time text on top of the ability icon in the quickbar.

Bug Fixes

    • Sorting will now function properly in the Guild Window.
    • Items placed in a quickbar are no longer removed when training abilities.
    • Using Shift + Right Click to split a stack of usable items will no longer cause the item to be used.
    • Some UI settings (such as quickbar lock, chat font size, and minimap zoom) will no longer reset upon area transition.

Miscellaneous Bug Fixes

SITH OR JEDI:   Test of the Little Miss Princess

As you’re getting out of a car at a local shop a woman in a very expensive automobile with a ‘Princess’ license plate frame pulls in beside you. You both reach the door to the shop at the same time and as you open the door, without saying “excuse me” she rushes past you to get inside. At first you get a bit perturbed but toss it off as nothing and get over it. Later, while shopping you see that she is being especially rude to the clerks that are trying to help her, belittling them and just being plain rude.

After you finish your shopping foray, you drive down the street to see the ‘Princess’ stuck on the side of the road with a flat tire.  You:

  1. Stop and lend a hand because not only does this act of kindness reflect better on you but it may help her extend the hand of kindness to another.
  2. Smirk to yourself as you drive by knowing that the bitch likely has auto insurance to help her get that tire fixed.
  3. Roll down your window and point at her whilst cackling mercilessly until she cries.

TK-726 Journal Entry 21-12-20

The following journal entries are those of Stormtrooper TK-726, a struggling, low-level attorney stationed on the first Death Star. They largely depict his trials and tribulations as a last-resort Imperial attorney. Found floating in space by a band of smugglers, Mos Eisley Radio acquired the journals and has set to work on translating and documenting the content. Though his fate is still shrouded in mystery, at this point, one thing is strikingly unclear: Who knows why TK-726 even bothered to record his these things?

TK-726 IN
Journal Entry 11-82-21

A pretty angry trooper came stomping into my office earlier today. He was all irate about something, but I was finishing a brief so I told him to just have a seat. When he went to sit down, instead of turning around, he backed up while facing me and then shuffled laterally. It was very bizarre and it immediately caught my attention.

“OK, take your helmet off and tell me what’s on your back that you don’t want me to see?” I asked, putting my brief away.

He had his full stormtrooper gear on. I like to have people take their helmet off so I can read their eyes. I, of course, keep mine on because I don’t want them to see my eyes, and it looks cool with my suit.

He looked mad and sheepish at the same time, which is quite the expression. When he turned around I didn’t see anything particularly interesting about the back of his armor. Then he pointed at his ass-plate.

Somebody had branded a perfect visage of Vader’s helmet on the left cheek of his pearly white backside armor.

It was spectacular.

“I gotta say, somebody is an artist. Where do you even get a brand capable of doing that on the Star?” I asked. It was truly impressive work, and to acquire or build a brand like that was amazing. The trooper didn’t share my appreciation.

“I want to sue someone.”
“Hold on. Why don’t you just get a new plate?”
“The guys at Equipment and Maintenance think it’s funny, they said they’re out of plates until Friday.”
“I assume it’s the talented SOB that branded your armor that you’re looking to sue here, and not the clowns at Equipment. Who was it?”
“I’m not sure.”

I paused. This, believe it or not, is not an uncommon situation. “Well, that’s going to be a bit of a problem.”

“I think it’s TK-1037. He accused me of cheating when I beat him in sabaac a few weeks ago.”

Now this type of thing happens quite a bit. Some angry person comes storming in wanting vengence. The problem is that the law isn’t always the best avenue for this. Sometimes you just have to be a little more creative.

“Let me break this down for you. You want to sue TK-1037 because he stamped Vader’s face on your ass, which by the way is truly impressive work. So you’re going to sue this guy and guess what? You’re going to be famous by the end of the day. Every officer on this whole space station is going to know that you’re sitting on Vader’s mug, and sooner or later so will the big guy himself, and then it’s chokey-chokey time. And for what? You think you’re going to get “paid” for this? What are your damages? Embarrassment and future infamy? Good luck with that, buddy.”

I motioned him closer.

“Here’s what you do, kid. You take whatever money you wanted to pay me and go down to Equipment. You give it to my buddy TK-481 and tell him that I sent you. Explain that this guy got you good and you’re looking for some payback. Tell him to hide all the codpieces for 48 hours. Then you go back up to joker’s room when he’s working out and superglue a whole bunch of your hair in strategic places to his. Oh, and get yourself a new assplate before you get yourself killed.”

Who says lawyers aren’t creative?
